Agreement for Enrollment

Thank you for enrolling your son/daughter at Minnesota Valley Lutheran High School! We are pleased and privileged to serve your family. We are committed to carrying out our mission to educate the total student – in a caring, Christian family community. At MVL, spiritual matters are more than a class or a daily devotion. Lessons from God’s Word are an integral part of everything we teach and do. Below is a basic outline of what we believe and teach.

We believe …

• The Bible is the true Word of God. It clearly teaches all we need to know for eternal life.

• There is only one true God. In the Bible God reveals himself as three persons-Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

• At the beginning of time God created heaven and earth and all creatures. He did this in six days. Man and woman are God’s special creation.

• The first people, Adam and Eve, lost the image of God when they gave in to the temptation of Satan and disobeyed God’s command. This brought God’s judgment on them. Since that time all people are conceived and born in sin. Therefore, we are unable to reconcile ourselves to God by our own efforts and deeds.

• The message of the gospel is the good news that a loving God sent his Son, Jesus, to take away the sins of all people. The Gospel freely offers to all sinners the righteousness that is found in him. God offers and gives eternal life and salvation to all those who believe that Jesus is the Savior from their sins.

• Jesus Christ is the Savior of everyone. He is the eternal Son of God who became man to redeem all people. Taking our place, He lived a perfect life keeping the law of God for us. He also died as our innocent substitute on the cross to pay a price sufficient for everyone’s sin. After rising from the dead, Jesus ascended into heaven.

• God judged all sinners righteous in his sight when Jesus Christ died on the cross for us.

God declared everyone free from the guilt and punishment owed for our sins. The sinner receives this free gift of forgiveness, not by doing good deeds, but only by faith. A person is justified when he or she believes this message. It is a gift of God.

By enrolling your son/daughter in our school, you understand that these Bible teachings will be taught and you are giving us permission to minister to your son/daughter in this way. It is also understood that your son/daughter is expected to attend worship with our campus family as we come together daily for chapel. We also expect your son/daughter will abide by the Christian and moral standards as prescribed to us in God’s Word and outlined in our most recent student handbook. We are grateful to be able to serve your family. May God bless our partnership!

A Brief Statement on Christian Sexuality

What our churches and schools in the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS) believe and teach regarding sexuality according to God’s Word…

We teach what the Bible says about the gift of human sexuality. Human sexuality is a precious gift of a loving Lord, intended to bless the God-ordained institution of marriage. As it states in the book of Genesis, marriage is to be between a man and a woman. Any sexual activity outside of this husband/wife relationship is contrary to God’s Word and God’s will.

1) We believe that the Bible is inspired, inerrant, and the sole authority of truth. (cf. 2 Timothy 3:16-17)
2) We believe that the Bible is clear: Homosexual thoughts and acts are sinful, just like sex outside of marriage (homosexual or heterosexual), lustful thoughts, greed, pride, etc. are sinful. Homosexual sins are no worse than other sins. Yet they are sins. (cf. Romans 1:26-27; 1 Corinthians 6:9-10)
3) We believe that Jesus Christ has paid for all sin by his once-for-all sacrifice for us on the cross. (cf. 1 Corinthians 6:11; John 3:16)
4) Forgiveness is received through trust in this promise. (cf. Ephesians 2:8-9)
5) Impenitence (not being sorry for a sin) precludes such trust. (cf. Hebrews 10:26)
6) Without such trust God will punish sin in this life and in the life to come. (cf. Mark 16:16b)
7) With such trust all sin is forgiven in this life and in the life to come. (cf. Mark 16:16a)
8) Thanksgiving to God for this full and free forgiveness moves us to live a life of obedience to him in thanks. (cf. 2 Corinthians 5:15)
9) Consequences of sin may linger to teach us the seriousness of sin and prevent us from relapse. (cf. Hebrews 12:7-8)
10) We will continue to call sin what it is in order to lead people to such penitence. (cf. Acts 2:40)
11) We will continue to proclaim the forgiveness of sins to all who are penitent and trust in Jesus’ work. (cf. Matthew 28:19-20; Mark 16:15)

Marriage and Human Sexuality Policy

The Bible is the infallible, inerrant Word of God and is the source of all Christian doctrine and the standard of all Christian living and behavior. MVL is committed to uphold all the Biblical teachings confessed by the Evangelical Lutheran Church as stated in the Book of Concord, as well as the doctrinal statements made by the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod in the pamphlet This We Believe.

MVL is also committed to God’s teaching of marriage and sexuality as it is explained in the Bible. Since this is such a contentious issue in today’s society, it is necessary to share explicitly what the Bible teaches and what MVL says about Marriage and Human Sexuality for the consideration of all parents who plan on enrolling their children.

Marriage and Human Sexuality as taught in the Scriptures:

The Bible defines, and MVL teaches, marriage as the permanent, exclusive, comprehensive, and conjugal “one flesh” union of one man and one woman, intrinsically purposed for procreation and biological family, and in furtherance of the moral, spiritual, and public good of binding father, mother, and child. (Genesis 1:27-28; Genesis 2:18- 24; Matthew 19:4-9; Mark 10:2-9; Ephesians 5:31-33)

Sexual Immorality
The Bible defines, and MVL teaches, that Holy Scripture grants two life-enhancing options for human sexual behavior: (1) the conjugal “one flesh” marital union of one man and one woman, and (2) celibacy. Either is a gift from God, given as He wills for His glory and the good of those who receive and rejoice in His gift to them. MVL believes that sexual acts outside marriage are prohibited as sinful. Consequently, MVL students, faculty, administration, trustees, and staff must resist and refrain from any and all sexual acts outside marriage — including but not limited to co-habitation, adultery, fornication, incest, zoophilia, pornography, prostitution, voyeurism, pedophilia, exhibitionism, sodomy, polygamy, polyamory, sologamy, or same-sex sexual acts. (Exodus 20:14; Leviticus 18:7-23; Leviticus 20:10-21; Deuteronomy 5:18; Matthew 15:19; Matthew 5:27-28; Matthew 15:19; Romans 1:26-27; 1 Corinthians 6:9-13; 1 Thessalonians 4:3; Hebrews 13:4; Galatians 5:19; Ephesians 4:17- 19; Colossians 3:5)

Biological sex and gender
The Bible defines, and MVL teaches, that God created male (man) and female (woman), sexually different but with equal personal dignity. Consequently, MVL students, faculty, administration, trustees, and staff must affirm their biological sex and refrain from any and all attempts to physically change, alter, or deny their created biological sex — including but not limited to elective sex-reassignment, transvestite, transgender, or non-binary “genderqueer” acts, conduct, or promotion . (Genesis 1:26-28; Romans 1:26-32; 1 Corinthians 6:9-11)

Forgiveness and redemption through Christ – The Bible defines, and MVL teaches, that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God and therefore redemption, forgiveness, and spiritual cleansing is available for all sins. Consequently, MVL students, faculty, administration, trustees, and staff must welcome and treat with respect, compassion, and sensitivity all who experience same-sex attractions or confess sexually immoral acts but are committed to resisting sexual temptation, and refraining from sexual immorality. (Matthew 11:28-30; Romans 3:23-24; Ephesians 2:1-10; 1 Corinthians 10:13; Hebrews 2:17-18; Hebrews 4:14-16; 1 John 1:9)

Students are encouraged to bring questions and concerns they have regarding matters of sexuality to teachers and administrators at MVL. Such discussions will always be carried out with discretion and with full knowledge and consent of a student’s family unit. We intend to honor Christ our Savior and his word by treating each student with love, respect, and compassion as we uphold the teaching and values of Scripture at MVL.
